Chat with Your Agent in Slack

Once linked, you can DM your agent in Slack the way you’d message a colleague, and the conversation shows up in Workprentice as a normal session.

Prerequisites

Slack connects with a bot token rather than a sign-in redirect, so you (or a workspace admin) will need a Slack app for your Slack workspace with a Bot OAuth Token (xoxb-…). The Signing Secret from the same app is optional but needed to verify inbound DMs.

1. Connect the Slack integration. Open Customize → Integrations in the Workspace scope, add Slack, and paste the Bot OAuth Token (and the Signing Secret, so Slack DMs can be verified).

2. Wire up Slack events. Open your personal agent’s Messaging card and follow the “How to connect” steps. After you verify the connection, the card shows an Event Subscriptions Request URL — paste it into your Slack app’s Event Subscriptions settings and subscribe to the message.im and app_mention bot events.

3. Link your Slack identity. Two ways, same result:

   • From Slack: DM the bot. It replies with a Connect your account link that verifies and links your identity.
   • From Workprentice: follow the linking step on the Messaging card.

4. Chat. DM the bot in Slack and your agent answers. The conversation appears in your Workprentice sessions list with a Slack marker, with the same full session log as any other conversation.

Variations

Because a Slack conversation is an ordinary session, everything sessions support applies to it:

• Turn a Slack thread into a recurring job. If you keep asking the agent for the same thing over DM, open that session in Workprentice and press Make recurring — it distills the conversation into a draft assignment, with the name and instructions pre-filled from what the agent actually did.
• Start in Slack, finish in Workprentice. A quick question over DM sometimes grows into real work. Open the session from your sessions list to review the full log — every tool call and decision — and continue the conversation there; anything the agent produced along the way lands as a work product.
• Give every agent Slack tools. The workspace Slack connection you set up in step 1 does double duty: beyond powering DMs with your personal agent, it puts Slack’s tools in every workspace agent’s toolkit, like any other integration. A weekly report assignment, for instance, can end its instructions with “post the summary to the team channel.”
